Hamilton County Sheriff's Office giving out free steering wheel locks to Kia owners

The latest breaking updates, delivered straight to your email inbox.

According to officials, Kia car thefts are increasing daily and most of the suspects are teenagers.

Now, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office is working to prevent those thefts, giving out free steering wheel locks to Kia owners.

The car company donated the locks.

People looking to receive a steering wheel lock must be a Hamilton County resident, a registered Kia owner and have a steel key ignition.

The sheriff's office said ensuring residents feel safe is their top priority.

"I thought, you know, if you have people that can't sleep at night, our residents, the people that we protect and serve. That didn't sit well with me," Robin Reid with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office said. "We're very invested and serious about protecting and serving our community. And that comes in many different fashions. So that was the start."

Deputies say if you spot something odd in your neighborhood, call police immediately.
